Unusual Friends

Akaasha, a 6-month-old female Bengal tiger living at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, was taken on a daily walk around the parkĀ the other day. As she was taken past the bottlenose dolphin habitat, she became especially intrigued by the strange, bubble-releasing creatures on the other side of the glass.

Maverick, a 14-month-old male dolphin, seemed equally entranced by the foreign friend on the other side. While the dolphins are used to visitors at the park, they certainly aren’t used to tigers.

Unlike most cats (big and small) tigers have a natural affinity for water, thanks to some unusual webbing between their toes, they are powerful swimmers. Maybe one day Maverick and Akaasha will be introduced without the glass divider? On second thought, that glass is probably a good idea for everyone involved.

Enjoyed the pics. Would have loved to be the zookeeper walking the tiger past the dolphins-what a great experience it must have been.
