I know that trees always look cold on a blustery day, especially when they don’t have any leaves, this is a bit extreme…

I bet the tree pretended to love its new garment, and then tossed it into the rag pile when the gift giver wasn’t looking.

Many dining room tables are made from wood, but that doesn’t mean you should go around dressing trees like it’s time for Sunday dinner. That’s like asking someone to try on their funeral attire while they’re still thirty and healthy.

  6. Hhhhhuummmm, I ponder ? How do tree’s breath ??

  7. Forget the other negative comments. This is obviously an extremely creative mind who could not only think of the idea but painstakingly execute it. What a wonderful interesting group of photos. I’m keeping the link.

  8. I love the first one. What a great idea for spring & summer :)

  9. To answer the above question from Chrisopher… Acting as an enormous “carbon sink”, trees soak up carbon dioxide from the air, producing life-giving oxygen in return. In fact, a medium-sized tree generates the same amount of oxygen as each one of us needs to breathe.

In a tree, ‘breathing’ takes place in the leaf. Chlorophyll (the substance causing the green colour) absorbs the CO2 and uses it along with water to dissolve minerals taken up through the roots. After the chemical reaction is completed, the leaf releases oxygen and water vapor through its pores.

  10. this was actually a project i read about somehwere in the states..maybe california? anywho, it was widely covered/appreciated! totally cool concept! i love it when an artist can utilize their environ and send a message…whatever it is! inspires me to step outside of my little box.

  11. Greatness

Of course, this was a creation by an artist from California. It is fantastic and gets the message across without harming the environment like so many stupid people do. Duh…do you folks out there get it!
California is and always has been the cutting edge of saving the environment. Get a grip, people. We need trees, bees, water, no plastic in the landfill, eliminate Styrofoam, and a plethora of other things which would fill 200 pages. Bottled water is a scam - get real! Refuse to use Styrofoam and contact company’s that serve their beverages in it so they can be aware of what they are doing. As Obama has told us, we ALL must do our part to save the Earth. If not now, when people? Check out Bob Dylan’s “Slow Train Coming” and get the message he is sending. “You have to serve somebody!”

    Read this and do something.

  20. I agree with Linda. Amazing!

  21. excellent!

  22. Get Photoshop, leave trees as nature intended.
This isn’t cool, it’s ugly, why can’t humans stop fiddling about and then congratulating themselves for being so creative. If I found this in the forest, it would be cut down in no time. Environmental vandalism should be a crime.

  23. Who is this artist? There is no credit given.

  24. Ms Schweitzer, You’ll be surprised right out of your boring California chauvinism–in actuality, this artist is from Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and now lives in Kent (”Four Dead in Ohio”).

This Tree Cozy was created by artist Carol Hummel and was a winner in the 2005 Heights Public Art Competition in Cleveland Heights, OH. …

  25. AWESOME, I LOVE THEM

  26. Amazing!…one creative mind i swear…they r just too cute!…Gud job by the designer!:D

  27. That is one terrifying muffler! Terrific post!

  28. Totally disagree with this. It may look pretty, but what about all the creatures that depend on this tree for survival. Their camouflage, developed over milions of years for survival will have them sticking out like sore thumbs in these covered trees. Not to mention the fact that burrowing creatures and those who eat bark are unable to access their food supply. Not nice at all.

  30. Beautiful, they must have loved it. Trees don’t have mind but they have senses. It shows how much love the creator is holding for the nature in his heart.

  36. Wow, who has time to knit clothes for a tree????? Can someone please introduce me to these people. I have a lot of useful ideas for things they could do that would be really helpful.

    It’s art - enjoy it.

  38. Such a osam picture and work!
    Really nice
    Keep it up

  39. Really pretty. How on earth would you keep them clean?

  40. Something else BUT sure does catch the eye…………….

  41. I love your work! It’s beautiful on trees!

  42. I’m amused by the militant “tree advocates.” It’s not like it’s been done to an entire forest, or even an entire grove. It’s one tree here or there amongst thousands, millions. Pardon me while I roll my eyes at the idea that a bug can’t burrow through crochet.
Yes, trees are beautiful unadorned. So what?
I wonder what these hypocrites set their dinner plates on to eat off of? What on earth do they Sleep on or sit their rumps down on? They’d better be living in mud and straw huts built painstakingly around living trees and writing their shopping lists on papyrus.
