The sad thing is how many people with these negative thoughts on religion have never even read the bible. And equally or even more sad is how many warped “religious” people have deterred people from ever getting to know Jesus first handed. It is one of the worst sins to call yourself a Christain and then do things that pull people away from Christ. My church is no certain “religion” and nor do we push anything on anyone but it is open for people to come and go at their own will just like the bible says…God make man and gave us all free will…he sent his son to die on the cross for us so that when we figure out that our free will is getting us in trouble we have a way to be saved and a way to get to heaven and not suffer with the rest of the world. To say you’d like to get me where I’m going quicker is a quite harsh and I’m sad for you that you are so miserable to think such a thing. I would do anything for anyone, even you so stop wishing me dead…and PLEASE don’t stereotype all Christians…I’m quite alarmed by some of them myself be we certainly don’t all fit into one box…

One more time , religion , politics ,knives , guns and swords don’t kill people , people kill people . Almost all modern science is based on discoveries made by people educated by one church or another and who were also members of that church ,synagogue , or temple .Galileo , Kepler ,Isaac Newton , and yes , even Darwin were educated by the church and were members of the clergy . The list goes on and on .We do stupid things not because we are Christian , Jewish , Muslim , Hindu ,. . . but because we are at times greedy or self-centered or just ignorant .Most religions try to set guide lines for people that if people followed them there would no war or crime .If you can see nothing beyound yourself ,fine then show respect for those who do .
Every year I have a holiday party for my friends and Christians , Jews , Hindus ,Moslems , Pagans and even athiests show up , and oddly enought no religious wars have broken out in the last 25 years or so at my house .

why has there been wars in the middle east for so long ? religion.
what is the excuse often times for wars ? religion.
that group of people believe in a different invisible man than I do, let’s kill em. I know my book says I’m not supposed to kill but they have to be evil right ?

if religion makes you a better person, i’m all for it. but if you keep coming around me talking about it, when I have asked you not to… I should be allowed to help you on your way to wherever you believe you will go when you die.

We create evil. We were given FREEDOM. That means that all the shit is our own fault.To blame religion using OBJECTIVE ETHICS is idiotic. If you want to be atheist fine, but please realize that this means:

No objective moral code

no free will(determinism)

no real,,,fixed identity.

no creativity

no beauty, justice etcc (all intangible concept)

In most cities in the U.S. you will find hospitals with names like; St. Vincent’s, St. Mary’s, Lutheran. Go inside the hospital and look around and you’ll find a display about the history of the hospital. It will have pictures of nuns who founded the hospital to take care of the sick. (This was before companies used hospitals to make money.)

Yes there have been many evils done in the name of religion. But there have also been many good things done in its name too.

Oh, and don’t forget the man named Jesus who loved you enough to die on the cross in your place. He proved his divinity by coming back from the dead three days later. If you believe this He will take you to heaven when you die instead of letting you burn in hell forever as all of us deserve. Not imaginary, but a real man (well part God, part man) in history.

When people use the Bible to spread hatred against anyone or use religion to harrass and violate any group, then their interpretation of religion is clearly being used for immoral purposes.

I give you the case of Fred Phelps and his immoral tribe
of relatives who call themselves ‘The Westboro Church”. These lowlifes show up at the funerals of military people who were killed in the war. Fred Phelps and his ilk shout “Jesus hates you” and they carry signs that claim that they hate the US military because they fight for the USA, and the USA allows homosexuals to live free of hate and avarice. The Phelps clan is surely mentally ill and
gravely evil, all, they claim, in the name of religion.

Also, children of church going people who have been abused and tortured, mentally and physically, are now speaking out. These
children are now adults and they have come forth to expose their
hypocritical parents who showed their best side in the church pews on Sunday, only to abuse everyone else, including their children, every other day of the week.

Tisha - you can not state for a fact that 90% of religion is anything, because you have no facts to back it up and you are obviously making that up for your own self importance. Intelligent people are not buying your lies and your foolish assertation.

The sign above, which states “I’d rather be saved by Jesus, than an airbag.” probably actually means that they hope to be saved, instead of getting into an accident where airbags have to be deployed.

It’s just a play on words.

The Bible was written by man. It was written 2000 years ago and translated by monks into every language.

It is very possible that when people claim to hear God that they are actually schizophrenic or psychotic and are hearing imaginary voices that are all in their own head, since no one else can hear them in real life.
