Don’t like reading? Read on…
Just because you don’t enjoy reading a good book, doesn’t mean there aren’t many other uses for all of those books piled up in the attic.
Below are promotional images for Anagram Bookshop in Prague, by Kaspen.
The following sculptures were created by Tom Bendtsen. Check out his site for his complete collection.

These are awesome ideas! Between me and my dad we must own an entire library of books–many of which were never read more than once. He is a retired artist and art director…this would be an awesome project for him!
Hey now this is a creative set of pictures, and I like this site a ton. I just want to point something out since we are on the topic of reading books. Why don’t the American people read books anymore? I mean doesn’t it feel like this is part of the reason why our country is going in the wrong direction? Anyways just wondering what everyone thinks here.
Finally a practical use for all those copies of Twilight that exist.
awesome.
i wonder if anyones read all those bookks. itd be a waste if not
p.s. books arent just to read…(they are to be read) but you can learn from them and create your own ideas from the ideas the hold in their pages
Hi, what blog platform is this? Is it working for you or..? I would really appreciate it if you could answer this question! Thanks in advance!
Noooooooo! Don’t hurt the books! Make it stop!!
hmm I can’t describe my feeling about this .. those books are turned into artworks … that are going to be treasured so much. but the book itself is a real treasure.. yes, you’ve read the book and it’s already in your heart.. but you could just pass it to people who doesn’t own …. i just really can’t describe … im sorry ..
but i love the artpieces……..!^^
Finally, some good uses for all those Reader’s Digest Condensed Books.
I love to read and I have raised three of my four children to enjoy it also. I have been tested with a 2000 wpm reading speed and I have one child who reads nearly that fast as well. Some of the images here would be fun to try with the older books that I have in storage. I particularly love the shelves and lamps. Thanks for posting these images!
p.s. books arent just to read…(they are to be read) but you can learn from them and create your own ideas from the ideas the hold in their pages
Very nice this cute
oo i like it
Saw an artical on HGTV about ‘paper countertops’; countertops being made out of compressed paper. Seems VERY green to me and would look great as a countertop to read with all my recipe books mounted on them. I have big kitchen counter spaces, but alas not enough recipes books to complete the project.
All of the people who think this desecrates books, needs to look past it. Look at the effort and ingenuity it took to do this! And how dare someone compare this to a baby skin coat! That is sick. I love books to, and this is just another way to love them.
Amazing! How did the artist thees idea!
I think it would be so much easier to make these pictures than make them up and fabricate them in PS.
OMG! I have been trying to come up with the right decorative touch to my new place that said “Hey, this is me” and this is it! Break out the circular saw. I will have a bookshelf like that one. And the book “quilling”–fabulous!
I love it. As a bookseller I have to tell all of you that are worried about the desecration of these books that millions (yes millions) of books end up in landfills each year. Many books are way overpublished and once read are discarded. At that point they cease to become a collection of inspiring ideas and instead become a collection of paper. This artwork adds to the beauty of our world and feeds the soul. Some might say that is the highest purpose of the written word. I’d put a couple of cushions on the chair though.
Hello Stumbleupon. I would like to briefly say thank you for inviting me back to the site. I found out that the old one expired in 2009. Again thank you to the FIFA committee, and may God bless International-Football.
i think this is so amazing, and i would love to know what tool the artist used to carve into the pages.. the sea and the ship is amazing but i cant work out wether it was stuck on or carved either way outstanding… i have to say however geeky i kno sound, my first thoughts were ‘those books
’ but then the pure genuineality out weighed this
I agree with Kate and many others. What a scandal, but at least it is a creative destruction.
what a waste of books!!
OMFG!!! THATS SO AMAZINNGGG!!!!!!
The person who said they read at 2000 wpm is a liar. No one reads that fast, not even the fastest speed readers. The top 1% of the world’s fastest speed readers only make 1000 wpm with a comprehension rate of 85% – which comes out to only 850 ewpm. Try doing some research before posting ridiculous statements about you and your ‘kids’ online. Even average readers only manage 200 wpm with a comprehension rate of 60%.
I am sooo sad that those books were murdered in such a fashion, and I am even more horrified at the fact that I absolutely LOVE the artwork that their lifeless bodies create. lol, I am a book collector and will make sure my books never visit you. lol, wonderful art though, I must say.
How are the stacks of books put together??
SOmetimes books are just too worn out to use as books anymore — in Judaism, when they’re holy books, we have a ritual burial for them; they go into what we call a “genizah.” I rescued a few books from the salvage pile and used them in a series of papercuts; check out an example here: http://isaacb2.blogspot.com/2010/01/legacy-of-jacob-paper-midrash.html
Thank you for this post, I have learned a lot more now about WoW! Your e-book was very helpfull. I wonder you will show more of your guides!.
if i didn like reading i wouldnt own any books at all, certainly not enough to destroy them as shown in the photos above
Leave the books alone!!! While I appreciate the creativity, this makes me sad.to cut a book…is to destroy a little bit of soul..poor Alice….
For those who, like me, cringe when they see this sort of thing done to a book, and who suggest donating the books instead of destroying them: I have worked for many years in a highly specialized used book store (no latest best-sellers) and in libraries, and I hate to tell you but it is true that the world is full of books which are of no use or interest to anyone. They are good only for trash. We can’t sell them; nobody will ever read them. If somebody can make something beautiful or clever out of them, it’s better than the the dump. Sadly, just because it is a book does not mean that it will be of value; sometimes all that the library or the charity bookstore can do anything with it is toss it out. (Please, please, please, don’t try to donate anything with even a tiny whiff of mildew!)
Holy look at all the books!
Holy crap people, get over the fact that “books were harmed in the making of these.” They’re material things. They always print more. At least they were turned into something expressive rather than getting thrown in the trash.
I love to read…and idk if this just makes me weird but seeing those pictures hurt my heart….no matter how cool they really were but, -ouch- books?
Very creative. Sweet….
Every ladder has its problems; not one is perfect. It won
I get that this is really creative and all but it just feels like a book burning to me. I like books and feel bad when they are destroyed. I like art and feel bad when it is hindered. I realize that books are material things and yes you can always print more but when and how does a book lose value? Books are material things as long as they are unread. They’re just ink and paper but when you read them they turn into intangible thoughts that spur on new thoughts and ideas. People can argue that “hey at least they didn’t end up in a landfill!”. What kind of person would throw a book in the garbage? I also realize art spurs new thoughts and ideas as well, so I don’t know it just seems like an awful waste. This is one time when I would have rather seen something that was photoshopped I guess. Okay one last thing, If someone made an ice sculpture replica of the statue of liberty entirely out of starving childrens tears and UN food aide it would still be art but what is the piece really saying and what’s the harm?
Silly,Silly Worms don’t you really know what’s important? Think,if you made it to the bottom of this page you’ve already read more lehdlgecfujre then most people read in a week.Be good and show this page to someone who just likes to lick the pictures.
this is very very creative indeed. if nature hands you a lemon, make lemonade. einstein was spot on when he said that too much reading instills lazy habits of the mind. the mind grows on thinking, feeling, love and excitement (and sometimes peace too).
but at the same time i feel that destrpying all these books in the name of wierd art instead of donating them to a library for free so that some poor soul might gain some benefit from them is the cause for the saddest soul-searching. i mean is this the way the information age is supposed to end: in a post-literate society where the kids love punk music and prefer to pass insults on the streets at strangers instead of mining te wisdom of the race as we find it trapped within the hymenographia of books.
i mean books don’t bite. u should give them a try. and even if they happen to be your pet peeve that doesn’t give you the right to burn, damage or hammer nails into a book. letit be remembered that if this is the way we treat our books its just some time off into the fucking future when we will treat human beings likewise.so though this idea might sell for now given the ultraliberal atmosphere where the madmen have taken over the asylum nevertheless…caveat emptor is all i can say.
this was a real kind of recycling
freakin’ genius! I love when people find good uses for antiquated stuff.
Books are printed to be read. Writers spent a lot of time to finish a book and I feel bad whenever books are destroyed. If you don’t like reading why not give it to other people who might benefit from it?
That’s what you called an art. You could do art too on your floor by engraving it according to your design or you could use several good stones for it.
all the pictures are really Good, Wow!!! Awesome.
this is so sad
OMG! THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!! I LOVE TO READ! LOOOOVEEEEEEEEEEE TO READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
N THIS IS JUST AMAZING! i wouldnt cut the books though… I couldnt..
What’s this about “books are holy and may not be destroyed”? It’s not as if there is only only one copy of each, and now it’s lost forever!
Maybe I feel this way because I love reading (the activity, the ideas, the creativity), not the books per se.
Thats amazing..i was taken aback when i first saw it… oh my gosh…its wonderful…!!!
This stuff is awesome artwork. It’s amazing how creative some people are. Myself, i am most creative when I’m reading books.
