Caution: Panda Zone Ahead

In the United States Labor Day marks the end of summer, and for a lot of people that means it’s time to squeeze in one last road trip. Unfortunately, summer is also unofficially known as “road construction season” and no matter where you go you’ll likely have to deal with plenty of orange barrels, lane closures, and those handy portable electronic road signs; you know, the ones that are so easy to hack.

Is Jack Black in town?

Just last week, residents of Flagstaff, Arizona were warned of this bloodthirsty panda on the loose in their area.

While local authorities assured residents that it was just another hoax, they incorrectly stated that the hackers would have needed specialized equipment to pull off such a stunt. In fact, you don’t need any equipment at all to change most of these signs, as described by Jalopnik several years ago.

Not that we’d ever recommend that you do this, but you have to admit that these pranksters can help make a morning commute through a construction zone a little more tolerable. Here are some of our favorites from the last few years.
