Miss Captive Beauty 2010 : A Prison Pageant
As part of the International Day of the Woman, municipal authorities organized the pageant dubbed “Bellaza Cautiva” at the Cereso prison in Juárez. The crown went to Cecilia Juarez, 22, incarcerated for drug trafficking. The jury chose the most beautiful inmate among 15 participants and Juarez won the title by unanimous decision. She has been imprisioned for two months on drug charges and awaits sentencing. Organizers believed an event like this can act as a rehabilitative effort to raise women’s self esteem, and help to break up the monotony of prison life.
