Pour to Win
On April 16, Chris Raph — a 31-year-old bartender at the Shout House in Minneapolis, Minn. — was declared the fastest bartender in the world. He poured 662 cocktails in one hour, breaking the world record of 389. All of the 662 drinks had to be different with at least one alcoholic ingredient, one non-alcoholic ingredient, and at least three ingredients total. The record-setting drinks, numbers 390 and 662, were auctioned off to customers. Number 390 sold for $225, with proceeds going to charity. The event raised a total of $1,435 for a local charity, Finnegans Community Fund, which helps people fighting poverty. (more…)
Laughter is the Best Medicine
May 3 was World Laughter Day, and in Hyderabad, India, they certainly celebrated. They even have a club that encourages them to laugh — not just on World Laughter Day — but every day. Founded by Madan Kataria in 1995, the ABC Laughter Club encourages members to gather together and laugh to stay healthy. According to the club, laughter is a medicine, just like yoga or meditation can be. Because more than 70 percent of illnesses have some relation to stress, they believe that laughter can help prevent these stress-related illnesses, even if you do it for just three minutes a day. The members of these clubs can be seen in the mornings, throwing their heads back and letting out explosive chuckles. What a way to start the day!
Children even joined in on the laughter at an event organized by the ABC Laughter Club on May 3.
I love to laugh. So do you. And so does everyone else. So, I’m thinking about starting a new club … anyone want to join?
They Dress Horses, Don’t They
I’m anti-dressing up pets in costumes for the most part, and I think it’s an exceptionally bad idea for an animal large enough to kill you with one good kick. But there’s no stopping a crazy lady. This lady makes traditional Bavarian Dirndl costumes for women and horses.
Don’t tell the horse, but pink is not a flattering color on her (at least I hope it’s a her).
Night of the Living Statues
We’ve all seen “living statues” – street performers that paint their clothes and faces to look like stone, worn copper or other statue materials. A contest of sorts was held in Russia over the weekend to honor the best living statues and artists in the country. Here are a few of the highlights.
Swinging on Trains
